Just Keep Swimming….Just Keep Swimming….

18 Nov

A few weeks ago I shared that I had some things I wanted to work on for myself personally. I did start working on number 2, controlling my eating. I am around 35 pounds overweight right now, although most people don’t believe me when I tell them I top out over 200 pounds. But alas, at the moment I do. In the past I have used a couple of diets successfully to loose and but they didn’t work for me this time. However, Boyfriend found a free app for his Ipod that counts calories and exercise. We’ve been using it for a couple of weeks. It’s called MyFitnessPal.com.

Now I’ve never had any success with counting calories to lose weight before, but I have also never had a little gadget to carry around with me to help me do it either. This has been working out pretty well for me. I know I have a portion control thing going on recently, so I hoped this would help me learn to better judge how much I am eating each meal, not just the calories but the amounts too. It seems to be doing just that.

To set it up, you answer questions about your current weight, height, etc., and then the program asks you how much weight you want to loose and a couple of other questions I don’t remember right now. I filled in all the answers, and began tracking my calories. I thought I was overloading regualrly, and turns out I was right. Big surprise, nope!

When I first entered the info I thought I was at 201 pounds, but I was wrong. When I got to the scale it was 204, so I updated my info and just kept moving on. My goal was to loose 1 pound a week, so that I’m not doing anything crazy to my metabolism.

Today I weighed and was delighted to see that I am down to 202.4 pounds! Yay! I’ve been diligent for only 8 days and lost 1.6 pounds already! This is very encouraging to me, and I’m very happy we have started using this app!

Do any of you struggle with your weight? Do you have tried and true methods for losing, or are like me and trying something new? I would love to hear about it in the comments! Have a great week! Angela

I can relate to this. I have a rocky relationship with food, I guess it started as a child when I was put on a diet! I was bullied at school for being overweight and since being an adult I have swung from very underweight to normal and overweight (usually during pregnancies) and back again. I’ve just had my 3rd baby and I can honestly say that this is the first time I have not felt the need to diet. I have lost the baby weight but it just happened, for the first time in my life. I truly believe we are who we are and when we stop focussing on food, our bodies find the right balance. For me, having 3 kids to run around after was all I needed. Good luck!
